Gingerbread Cookies

Classic gingerbread cookies with warm spices, soft centers, and lightly crisp edges. Perfect for holiday baking, decorating, and sharing cozy moments with family and friends.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.75 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, molasses, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
  6. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes for easier rolling.
  7. Roll out the dough to about 0.25 inch thickness and cut into desired shapes.
  8. Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
  9. Allow cookies to cool completely before decorating or serving.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough helps keep the cookie shapes sharp.
  • Do not overbake to maintain soft centers.
  • Cool completely before icing to prevent melting.
