Crispy Calamari

Golden crispy calamari with a light crunchy coating and tender squid inside, finished with fresh lemon and herbs. A restaurant-style favorite that is quick, comforting, and perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams fresh squid rings, cleaned
  • 120 grams all-purpose flour
  • 60 grams cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 750 ml neutral cooking oil for frying
  • 1 fresh lemon, cut into wedges
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a deep pan to about 180°C, keeping the temperature steady.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Pat the squid rings completely dry using paper towels.
  4. Toss the squid rings in the flour mixture until evenly coated.
  5. Fry the calamari in small batches for 2 to 3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  6. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Sprinkle lightly with salt, garnish with parsley, and serve immediately with lemon wedges.

Notes

  • Make sure the oil stays hot to avoid soggy coating.
  • Fry in small batches for best texture.
