Creamy Garlic Mussels

Creamy garlic mussels simmered in a rich, silky sauce with fresh herbs and a touch of lemon, perfect for dipping crusty bread and serving straight from the pot.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh mussels, cleaned and debearded
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup vegetable stock
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Heat a large pot or deep skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add olive oil and butter, then gently sauté the minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Pour in the vegetable stock and bring to a gentle simmer.
  4. Add the mussels, cover with a lid, and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, shaking the pot occasionally, until the shells open.
  5. Lower the heat and stir in the cream, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.
  6. Simmer uncovered for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce becomes slightly thick and glossy.
  7. Remove from heat, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Discard any mussels that do not open after cooking.
  • Avoid boiling the cream to keep the sauce smooth.
  • Serve right away for the best texture and flavor.
