Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • Extra parmesan for topping

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat and add olive oil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs soaked in milk, egg, garlic, parmesan, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Roll the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs and set aside.
  4. Brown the meatballs on all sides in the skillet, about 5–6 minutes, then remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, sauté diced onion until soft, then add crushed tomatoes and stir.
  6. Return meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer on low for 20–25 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and top with fresh basil and extra parmesan.
  8. Serve hot over pasta, in a sandwich, or with crusty bread.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for best flavor and texture.
  • Let meatballs rest in the sauce before serving to enhance flavor.
  • Add red pepper flakes for a spicy variation.
